RIP PIMP C

Great loop of Tom Petty's "Free Falling" for this song's chorus. I was really bummed to learn of Chad "Pimp C" Butler's passing when I was in London just before Christmas 2007. My friend from VA(one of the only other guys at the university who was from the South/liked good rap) and I had a fitting tribute to him that evening....Pimp C died in his 30's. Overdose.

Po' it up. Jake, I know you feel me on this one buddy. Dirty South

Excerpt From Rambo's Letter

Way earlier in my blog, I wrote about my friend "Rambo" and his oh-so-fun army recruit experiences. A lot of the letters since were just boring "can you get me this person's mailing address" type letters.....but now he's wrapping up basic training and I got this:

"... Yesterday was the last day of FTX and we did an Army tradition called "The Bayonet".

4 hours of intense physical stuff followed by a 12 mile ruck march. It was the most difficult thing I've ever done.

As we got to the final stop, Honor Hill, we were greeted by other companies cheering us on and throwing smoke grenades and flash bangs to signal to everyone on Sand Hill that we had returned.

The gates of Honor Hill are lined with lit torches and as we entered the tall gates we scooped a canteen full of grog. Once inside, we toasted to the Infantry and received our crossed rifle pins just like all Infantrymen who have gone before us.

It was a very moving experience.

I am proud to no longer be a recruit, I finally made it and am now an Infantryman.

On August 13, I'd be honored if [my Dad] would like to attach my blue cord to my uniform.

...I look forward to training at Ft Stewart

...but first 3 weeks at Airborne School ..."

Hell yeah brother

live music

Drummer with over 12 years experience (I'm 23) looking for guitarist/bassist/others to play music with. I have a large house on 45th street to practice/jam in. (Have own kit) I love to play tons of different music....right now I'm really into the Arctic Monkeys, but will play a whole range of stuff- reggae, rock, alt, jazz, funk. Ideally, I'd like to play a few times a week, mainly on the weekends, since I work 40 hrs a week M-F. In college, I played with friends at house parties, just jamming and drinking... If playing and experimenting works out, I'd definitely be interested in playing some gigs; mainly I just love playing and the whole live show/gig thing isn't as important as playing house parties for fun.
Let me know!
Losers need not apply
P.S.- I rock.

Amnesiac Quartet

An absolutely brilliant cover of Radiohead's "I Might Be Wrong" by these French jazz maestros
Try to find a cover better than this. Don't worry. I'll wait.

Arctic Monkeys

I'm a few years late on these lads, but they rock! I first saw an article in Q music mag called "Who the F*#$ are the Arctic Moneys."

This is who f*#$ they are:
